Magento Stabilization for Fast-Growing Rose Nursery

Heirloom Roses

Magento Stabilization, Security and UI/UX services from Jamersan continue to propel an online own-root rose nursery.

Heirloom Roses is a family-owned business that has seen explosive growth over the last few years to its online education and selling of own-root rose plants. However, their lack of e-commerce platform knowledge and e-commerce user experience was starting to strain the business. In comes Jamersan to help stabilize the Magento Open-Source platform, improve the maintenance of the infrastructure and Magento code-base and a quick-win UI/UX strategy.

The Challenge

Heirloom Rose was running the now unsupported Magento 2.2 platform. With lots of customized extensions and native extensions in their Magento 2 instance, it was a daunting task for their single developer to handle. Jamersan was called upon to leverage the expertise in managing complex code environments and upgrading quickly to reduce any security risks.

The Design

As the primary focus was stabilizing and upgrading to the latest version of Magento 2.4, we wanted to limit our efforts to keep it simple. We focused on an improved Home Page layout to leverage their beautiful product photography, optimized the PLP/PDP, improved search results and implemented a true, one-page checkout via a trusted third-party partner.

The Process

Starting with an in-depth code audit, we identified all the third party modules that became depreciated, available to update or problem areas. The Jamersan team also worked with the server hosting team to deep scan for Malware and remediate any affected areas. The upgrade process followed our standard blueprint: upgrade the core, apply patches, add in updated third party modules and remediate any conflicts/errors with custom modules.

We identified our core third parties to provide a secure, stable and responsive Magento site using.

Conclusion

The upgrade process took eight weeks from start to finish, including complete QA Testing and UAT cycles. The UI/UX improvements have to lead to an increase in conversions, a decrease in customer service requests and more time for the Heirloom Roses team to focus on the continued growth of the business and operations.
